How to Wash Silk?
For silk products, dry cleaning is recommended. However, if this service is not available, you can wash them yourself, but only by hand in water at a maximum temperature of 30°C.
Step-by-Step Hand Washing Guide
- Fill a bowl with cool water and add a delicate detergent designed for silk care. We recommend Wirek with lanolin, Biały Jeleń for silk, wool, and down, or Perwoll Wool & Delicates (avoid this if allergic to Methylisothiazolinone and Methylchloroisothiazolinone).
- Submerge the silk product in the solution and gently soak and press it in the water. Avoid rubbing the fabric to prevent damage.
- For stains, soak the item for 15-20 minutes. If the stain persists, apply a small amount of detergent directly to the area and gently massage it into the fabric.
- Change the water to fresh, cool water without detergent and rinse the product to remove any remaining soap.
- After rinsing, gently squeeze out excess water without wringing. Lay the item flat on a towel, roll it up, and press to absorb remaining moisture.
- Lay the damp silk item flat to air dry away from sunlight and heat sources like radiators to prevent discoloration.
Extra Tip
After rinsing, soak the fabric in a vinegar solution (1 tablespoon per 1 liter of water) to prevent mineral buildup from hard water, keeping the fabric soft and smooth.
How to Iron Silk?
Silk is a natural fabric that tends to wrinkle. After washing, it is recommended to iron your silk items while they are still slightly damp. There are three ways to do this:
- Using the silk setting on your iron.
- Ironing through a cotton cloth as a protective barrier.
- Using a steamer.
For smaller items like scrunchies, stretch them slightly before steaming. Direct steam onto one section at a time, rotating as needed until fully smoothed.
Additional Information
After washing and rinsing the detergent from the fabric, gently squeeze out excess water without twisting. You can also soak the silk fabric in a vinegar solution (1 tablespoon per liter of water). This prevents limescale buildup in hard water, helping the fabric stay soft and smooth.
How to Store Silk?
To keep your silk items in their best condition, store them in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Avoid hanging silk for long periods, as it may lose its shape. Instead, fold and place the items in a breathable fabric bag to protect them from dust and moths.
